Here’s an ultra-long post about my vacation with my dad this past few days. It’s a play-by-play of everything that happened … I took my laptop with my, so I wrote a little every night … have fun reading! … it should take quite a while! LOL
Day 1 (Thursday):
So yeah, first I thought that my dad and I wouldn’t be going on a vacation together after all, but we did/are. My dad and I were supposed to go to Gulf Shores, Alabama this past Wednesday … but he didn’t try and get reservations for a hotel until the Tuesday night. What a retard he is. So, needless to say, there were no hotels with vacancies … at all … whatsoever … blah blah blah. So I thought we weren’t going to go anywhere at all … then Wednesday afternoon (the day that we were supposed to leave) he calls me and says that we are going to Biloxi, Mississippi … which should have beaches and whatnot just like in Gulf Shores. So we finally leave his house at about 3:30pm Wednesday. Over 500 miles and 9 hours later, we are finally there (I drove halfway, he drove halfway).
Day 2 (Friday):
Thursday morning, my dad was a lazy bum and didn’t get out of bed until 12 noon. That was extremely annoying. So we go out … look around for the beach … and finally find what Mississippi considers a “beach.” The water was amazingly warm/hot, kind of grossly … we choose to go out on this tricycle floaty thingy … which was quite interesting to say the least. We paddle out pretty far, about fifteen minutes worth … and choose to take a little swim … all to find that we were just in waste-deep water. How that makes sense, neither one of us were sure. Then I notice how sticky and gooey the “ocean/beach” floor feels … we decide to get out a few minutes later … and find that our feet are black. We notice these big pipes going into the water from the shore … and have come to the conclusion that we just visited the “poo beach.” Yeah, we think that they pour sewage or they [a little more likely] had an oil spill (seriously) into that “beach.” We can’t be sure, but we can be sure that it was gross all around. There was hardly anyone there … and we found out why … cuz it’s the POO BEACH! ugg … how disappointing. We then drive around this town looking for somewhere to eat dinner … and realized that we had apparently ended up in what I like to call “Po-dunk, Mississippi!” Woo Hoo!!! The most “up-scale” restaurant that we could find ended up being a Dominoes. We ended up driving about 20 miles in all directions looking for somewhere a little better … but to no avail. So in a few minutes I’m gonna have a nice, wonderful, luxurious, pizza! Yay! Next time we are definitely not going to some place that we’ve never been to before. Big, bad, mistake. The beach sucks … no parasailing like we had hoped for … no people … poopy beach … the water in this hotel (and for that matter at IHOP) smells bad and tastes worse (the shower leaves you feeling oily) … so yeah, basically what I’m saying is … DO NOT COME DOWN HERE! In now way is it worth your time. In Gulf Shores, you can’t go five steps without running into ten different restaurants, beach shops, parasailing places, Jet Ski places, float places, gift stores, etc. But not here … nothing at all … it’s so sad … this place looks worse than the projects by our school … seriously. So I seriously hope that tomorrow brings much more joy than today did. Hopefully we’ll wake up a lot earlier than we did today … get out and find something more interesting to do than to get this nasty crap on our feet from the “ocean” water. Today, overall, was SUCKY! … oh yeah … and this hotel has no ice … and no working coke machines … stupid stupid vacation … ugg.
Day 3 (Saturday):
So today we went to MacDonald’s to get some breakfast … then to Walmart to get a road atlas … and then my dad called Expedia to see if we could get out of our last night at this horrid excuse for a hotel. We were unsuccessful in that venture … not surprising … so we’re stuck here another night. Interestingly enough our plans for tomorrow are for us to go to Gulf Shores tomorrow morning (about a three hour drive) … and possibly stay there one night. That was unexpected, but nice … except Julie and Courtney were going to TTU on Monday for a visit … and I was invited … guess I don’t get to go now :’( … I was really looking forward to seeing my wonderful girlfriend again, but lately it just doesn’t seem like things are working out how people planned. But my dad’s being really cool about this whole ordeal … I mean … we’re going to Gulf Shores tomorrow … and possibly staying another night there … coolness. So yeah, other than the news of going to Gulf Shores tomorrow morning, nothing really “vacation-like” happened today … talked to Julie and Courtney on the phone for a while, off and on … went to a movie (of all things) … we saw The Island … it was pretty good. The theatre that we went to was of course, extremely small town-ish … only had four theatres … and the tickets were only $2.50 each!!! that means that my dad and I got into a movie at 9pm for a little less than a third of the cost that it would be back at home!!! SCORE! lol
Day 4 (Sunday):
Today we woke up pretty early and began the nearly three hour drive to Gulf Shores, Alabama. Upon arriving we realized that we had no place to change into our swimming trunks … of course this thought didn’t cross our minds before leaving the hotel (that would should have changed in before leaving, but stupidly didn’t lol) … and ended up going to a Souvenir shop and changing in the restroom. We then had to go to a gas station to find out where the parasailing place was. The said it was behind some pink building. Well, we found this pink building, but behind it was just beach … and umbrellas … and lots of people. After asking around, we finally found the right umbrellas that the people in charge of the parasailing venture were under. (The only reason that we went to Gulf Shores in the first place was in hopes of parasailing … and not playing around in the oil-dump.) The price for the two of us was a whole lot more than either one of us had expected, but we still put forth the vast amount of cash for the eagerness and long car-ride forced us to do so! Haha
So we did it … it was fun … we chatted with the guys on the boat before we went up and they said they’d give us and extra couple of minutes up there … which was really cool. For those of you who don’t know, I’ve got a “slight” fear of heights … I don’t completely freak out or anything, but I just get extremely nervous and unsure about safety features and stuff … So this whole experience was very interesting and amazing all at once. The dudes in charge said that we probably went up about 200 to 250 feet! It was scary, and fun at the same time … my dad and I kept kicking ourselves because we forgot to buy a camera to take up there with us :’( … we had one heck of a great view … oh well. They told us that they were going to dip us in the water (on purpose) on the way down for laughs … well, while they were reeling us in we look down and see a massive school of jelly-fish … OMG I got so freaked out! I did my best to pull myself up and raised all my extremities as high from the water as I could in hopes of not getting stung by a jelly-fish again (I got stung badly last time I was in Gulf Shores, many many years ago). My dad got a little wet, and luckily missed the jelly-fish by a little. We headed home right afterwards … cuz I didn’t wanna stay another night away from home and Julie … so at 6pm … we began the 8-9 hour drive home! I drove for about 4 hours and then it was my dad’s turn. I slept the rest of the way … we got back to his house a little before 3am!!! I slept until 11 this morning.
END OF VACATION!
Glad to be home! Today’s Kristen’s birthday!!! Happy 17th Birthday KRISTEN!!!
Took Julie to go see Bad News Bears tonight … it was pretty good … I laughed a lot … I was in a pretty good mood today
… very glad to see my Julie again! I missed her loads and loads. Well, it’s getting late (or should I say early?) … so I’m gonna get some sleep … gotta lot of Julie time ahead of me tomorrow (or today?) haha
Adios todos,
-Joshie
